Leo – A Rescue Story

One little pup was left alone outside at a school on a very hot and humid day. He did not understand what happened, why he was there and what he was supposed to do.  He tried to find someplace to hide but was afraid to move too far.  The sun beat down, the day was hot and humid.  He was hungry.  He was thirsty.  He was so afraid.  He could do nothing but surrender.  Surrender to the hot sun.  Surrender to the ache in his belly and the aching loneliness and desolation he felt.

This is how one little pup was found by a kind hearted and compassionate woman who knew she could not leave him there to die.  She took him home, bathed him, fed him and realizing he needed more care than she could provide reached out for help.

That’s how one little pup arrived here overheated, dehydrated, hungry and feeling pretty bad.  His little nose was sunburned and his skin was covered with fleas and ticks.  But the hardest thing to see was the look in his eyes.  The lost and alone, the hollowness, the nothing left to believe in, look in his eyes. His eyes showed absolute defeat.

We immediately got to work.  He got subcutaneous fluids, cool water, good food and medication.  He was given a soft bed and blanket and a new toy.  He has his own area in a room that is cool.  He is safe.

He has a name now.  His name is Leo.  And now we will work to put the life back into Leo’s eyes. We will shower him with goodness. We will fill his belly with delicious food and his soul with big love and Leo will know all that is good. We will show him delight and we will put back his light that was stolen.  This is Safe Hands, this is rescue.
