Celebrating 15 Years of Lives Saved

October 7th 2006 is when this all started, and since then this community has saved the lives of more than 22,000 animals. This is cause for celebration and we want you to join in on the festivities!

From September 23rd through October 7th, we will be releasing rescue stories from our archives via our blog, social media, and email in addition to telling new rescue stories. We've collected so many stories of hardship, hope, and healing since the rescue was born and we can't think of a better way to celebrate our birthday than to share them with you. As part of our birthday, we're launching a peer-to-peer fundraising campaign so you can join in on the festivities in the best way we know how-- saving more lives!

Our goal is to get 100 people to raise funds for Safe Hands Rescue. If each of person gets 15 of their friends and family to give $15 each ($225 raised per person), we can raise $22,500 in just two weeks! This would run The Safe House for nearly 3 months, saving the lives of over 400 animals! The past 15 years are proof that when a community of animal lovers comes together and unites under a common goal, great things can happen. Great things for dogs like Norman.

Norman was found hopelessly stuck in kudzu vines with no way to free himself. We're not sure how long he was trapped. Struggling to get free only tangled him more, but still he tried. When his cries were finally heard and he was broke free, his fur was so matted that it felt nearly solid to the touch. It took over 2 hours to shave him, and through it all we saw nothing but gratitude and love from Norman. Afterwards he was finally able to move about freely and we noticed he had an abnormal gait. When his x-rays came back, we were astounded at Norman's ability to love despite what he's been through. He'd had a broken femur and pelvis, and both had poorly healed themselves before we found him. An old foot injury revealed severe damage with most of his toes sheered off one foot. He had been in immense pain and still all he wanted was love.

15 years of stories like Norman's precede that fateful day when he was found. And even as he settles into his loving foster home, learning what it's like to be free from fear and pain, we know there are so many more lives to save. We would love to celebrate this milestone with you and make it possible to keep doing this work. Becoming a part of our birthday fundraiser is easy, we're pulling together a tool kit for you, and we have some awesome prizes you can win!
