Safe Hands Update 9-12-07

Hello all,
We have been really busy planning our next transport which will be arriving Sunday.  We are taking in four adults and 10 puppies.  The transport we have coordinated though will bring over 50 dogs to safety.

Our smallest rescue was at the vet in KY today and currently weighs 2 pounds 3 ounces.  She and her two siblings are tiny little things in need of some serious TLC, good nutrition and medical care.  Our biggest rescue on this trip is a 70 pound hound dog named Jax who is very sweet and mellow.  We are excited to meet them all and to help them start their new lives in loving forever homes.  Thanks to everyone who is offering their home as a safe haven/foster home so these guys lives can be saved.

Woof, Woof, Woofstock
Saturday we will be at Woofstock - a really fun event in Linden Hills.  It is “a day dedicated to peace, love and understanding through man’s best friend.”  What better sort of day is there really?  Bring your own dog for some quality bonding time.

The pet parade is at 11 am, there is a pet tricks contest and a visit from the Fairy Dogmother in addition to vendors with all the latest and greatest in pet supplies and accessories.  Check it out at:  http://www.lindenhillswoofstock.net/   and stop by and see us at the Stunt Puppy and Just Paws Training booth.  Some of our great adoptable pups will be there too!  And while you are at it check out my favorite leashes made by Stunt Puppy.

Grandma who?
Yes, we are grandparents.  Safe Hands welcomed an 18 pound terrier mix named Jenna in early August.  Turns out Jenna had a surprise housewarming gift for us - seven puppies growing inside her!  Jenna gave birth almost three weeks ago and mom and babies are doing well.  These cute little guys and girls all weigh just over a pound now!  They will be ready to go to new homes in about 8 weeks.  If you know anyone interested in providing a family and home for one of them let us know.

Adoptable Dog Meet & Greet
Our next Adoptable Dog Meet & Greet will be Sunday, September 22nd at Dog Days in St. Paul at 2120 Myrtle Ave. from 2:30 - 4:30 pm.  Stop by and say hi, tell all your puppy-less friends or if you can help out watching a dog or pup or providing transportation for an adorable canine to and from the event please let us know!

Harlan Here We Come
We are planning our next trip to Harlan and hoping to incorporate our trip with a low cost spay and neuter clinic taking place near Harlan County.  We are waiting word that the clinic is a go and confirmation that it will happen the first weekend in October.  Our plan is to raise funds to assist in providing spays and neuters for owned dogs in the community and also to provide transportation to and from the clinic for these dogs.  We are really excited about this opportunity and I’ll keep everyone posted as this develops.  Once we get a date set we will also collect donations for the shelter.  Puppy food is ALWAYS a big need there and with winter coming any blankets for the dogs so they don’t have to sleep on the cold concrete is greatly appreciated.  They can also use any wire crates we can provide for the puppy quarantine room and if anyone has any puppy x-pens they aren’t using we would like to get some to the shelter.
Calling all Creatives
We have a store up on Cafe Press.  We need more items to sell though.  Someone must know a good graphic designer who wants to come up with some cool ideas for t-shirts, bags or other merch?  We would appreciate it greatly!!

Don’t forget to check out our website at www.safehandsrescue.org.

Thanks for your time, support and for spreading the word - rescue dogs make the most faithful companions.

Lynne, Janine and the Safe Hands pups!
